| The New York Times Magazine profiled Wendy Wendlandt, President of Green Century Capital Management ("Green Century"), in its April 29, 2008 "The Green Issue." View the Times story. Wendy has spent her entire career working to protect the environment and citizens' rights. She now advocates for the environmentally responsible investment movement, in which she has been active since becoming a founding member of the Green Century Funds Board of Trustees in 1991. Wendy’s extensive work in the environmental movement began when she graduated from college with a degree in political science in 1983. She has been active in efforts to improve the nation’s democracy through work on campaign finance reform and voter registration. She has gained over two decades of professional experience at the non-profit, non-partisan United States Public Interest Research Group, U.S. PIRG, the federation of state PIRGs. There she has worked on environmental campaigns ranging from toxic and nuclear waste cleanup to genetically engineered food. More recently, Wendy has been instrumental in developing Environment America, the new home of U.S. PIRG’s environmental issues work. In the early 1990s when a group of the state-based PIRGs decided to create investment vehicles that represent the environmental values of their members, Wendy was a strong supporter of the concept. She knew the value that shareholders can bring to environmental campaigns. Since then, Green Century has played a key role in improving corporate environmental performance by being a strong shareholder advocate on the issues of wilderness preservation, clean air, renewable energy, toxics, environmental health, safe food, clean water, chemical security, and political influence. Green Century Capital Management is an investment advisory firm focused on environmentally responsible investing. Founded by a partnership of non-profit environmental advocacy organizations in 1991, Green Century’s mission is to provide people who care about a clean, healthy planet the opportunity to use the clout of their investment dollars to encourage environmentally responsible corporate behavior. Green Century believes that shareholder advocacy is a critical component of responsible investing and actively advocates for greater corporate environmental accountability.
