When companies clear rainforests to make way for industrial palm oil plantations, they are not only destroying an already-threatened ecosystem, they are also contributing to climate change. The destruction of the rainforest means that trees can no longer act as the “lungs of the earth” to process and reduce global warming gases. Green Century is asking companies to purchase palm oil from certified sustainable sources and support a moratorium on palm oil expansion in rainforests.
