Company Spotlight: Autodesk*

A key component of Green Century’s sustainable investment strategy is support for environmental leaders and innovators. Instead of supporting environmentally irresponsible corporations, we invest in companies like Autodesk, a holding in the Green Century Equity Fund that is helping design a more sustainable future.

Creators use Autodesk software to design and construct more sustainable products, buildings, and infrastructure. For example, BioLite, a New York City-based startup, used Autodesk software to create its HomeStove, a simple and inexpensive cookstove aimed at the 1.2 billion people around the world who lack reliable access to electricity.

The HomeStove cuts fuel costs, generates off-grid power, and reduces emissions by 90%. It also provides a safer alternative to open-fire cooking, which is critical, as open-fire cooking causes more than 4 million deaths each year, according to the World Health Organization.

Autodesk is a corporate sustainability leader, too. All of its facilities and cloud services are powered by renewable energy and it has achieved a 38% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2009. Autodesk also has a blueprint to remove commodity-driven deforestation from its supply chain by 2020.

Autodesk’s environmental commitment earned it a 2018 SEAL Organizational Impact Award, as one of the 50 most sustainable companies in the world.

Autodesk is just one of the many industry leaders helping to guide our economy towards a fossil fuel free future in the Green Century Equity Fund.
