Meeting the Sustainable Development Goals

Leslie Samuelrich

Green Century investors are supporting the UN SDGs.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in 2015 by all of the member countries of the U.N. These ambitious goals are designed to ‘end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.’

Achieving these goals will require enormous commitment from every sector of the global community. Through our unique three-pronged approach, Green Century investors are supporting many of the SDGs. Here are a few examples.

SDG #7: Affordable and Clean Energy

None of the Green Century Funds invest in fossil fuels. Instead of supporting dirty and dangerous sources of energy, our Funds seek to invest in companies like 8point3,* First Solar* and Tesla,* that are leading the transition to a clean energy economy. Learn more about Green Century’s sustainable investment strategy.

SDG #13: Climate Action

Deforestation is a leading contributor to climate change, responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the global transportation sector. That is why Green Century has been pressing companies to change their practices around agricultural commodities like palm oil and soy that are linked to deforestation. Learn more about Green Century’s shareholder engagement work.

SDG #3: Good Health and Well Being

The overuse of antibiotics is leading to a rise in antibiotic resistant superbugs. More than 70% of antibiotics sold in this country are sold for use on livestock and poultry. Through engaging with companies like Starbucks* and Jack in the Box,* and by supporting the efforts of our non-profit owners, we are helping reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics in agriculture so we can count on these life-saving medicines in the future. Learn more about Green Century’s non-profit ownership.

These are just some of the ways in which Green Century investors are making an impact through their investments. If you are already a Green Century investor, thank you.
