Construction of new data centers to power the rapid growth of AI, or artificial intelligence, is booming. While data centers generate vast computing power, they also create considerable impacts on water, air, land, health, electricity prices, power outages, emissions and more.

What’s the rush? Green Century’s nonprofit owners, the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), have called for a two-year moratorium on new, large data centers. New technologies should not come at the expense of a clean and healthy environment.
